The Origins of Murphy’s Law
Murphy’s Law originated in the late 1940s, at the Edwards Air Force Base in southern California. Around that time, a team of Edwards engineers were engaged in the MX981 Project, which aimed to investigate the maximum force that a human body could endure during a crash. To understand the effects of rapid deceleration, these engineers needed to accelerate a human to high speeds. They achieved this by securing a daring test subject onto a rocket-propelled sled, a device designed for this purpose. John Paul Stapp, a charismatic and humorous flight surgeon, frequently volunteered for these test runs, becoming a key figure in the project.
The MX981 Project team welcomed a visit from Air Force Captain Edward A. Murphy, Jr., a reliability engineer. Murphy’s on-site visit was to provide newly designed gauges for the rocket-propelled vehicle, which had been experiencing frequent malfunctions. Frustrated by the ongoing issues, he reportedly directed his irritation towards his subordinates, stating, “If there’s any way, they can do it wrong, they will.”
The individual who turned Captain Murphy's grievance into what we now know as Murphy's Law was flight surgeon Stapp, while courageously risking his life to evaluate the team's hypotheses. When a journalist asked about the project's fundamental risks and dangers, Stapp reportedly responded by referencing a guiding principle that he referred to as "Murphy's Law." As he put it, errors and malfunctions are an inevitable aspect of any endeavor. Rather than let this reality deter them, the engineers embraced it as a source of inspiration to strive for excellence. The key to preventing disaster lies in anticipating every conceivable scenario and planning against it.
Thus, I take on this methodology. Revising Murphy’s Law too, "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong, if you allow and fail to prepare of it"..
Never take anyone’s word as gospel. To question is a natural instinct. To be curious is not to submit denial but is an inquisition for more information. Curiosity is the first step to gaining or expanding knowledge.
“Trust everyone to be themselves, but trust in the fact that you can see them well. It it takes too much energy to not trust someone. You will always have to stay two steps ahead of them. Trust them to be themselves. Trust the snake to bite you, trust a lair to lie to you, trust a thief to steal from you, trust them to be them… but know that when you see them.” DMX
Do not allow those to claim and celebrate in your success, when they did not contribute to it.
Allow others to show you where they position you in their lives. Don’t follow their words, follow their actions, and respond in-kind. As to not cause confusion, know where you stand with people so that you can know how to operate and move for their liking and yours. Give the desired attention and appropriate response allotted to your position. Do not Devote more efforts outside of your given position, as it will be wasted on the unappreciative.
There is no better time to accomplish what’s needed than the present. Putting it off until tomorrow, the day after, turns into later, which soon can be forgotten. Seize the moment and accomplish what you have set out to achieve.
Avoiding self-promotion and focusing on quiet excellence enables your accomplishments to shine and create a memorable impact. It’s crucial to take the time necessary to reflect on the larger picture and to formulate a strategic plan that will assist you in reaching your goals. By maintaining a calm and collected attitude, you achieve a significant edge in negotiations, conflicts, or any circumstances requiring patience. Remaining discreet conceals your intentions from those who may wish to hinder your success, and achieving your goals diminishes their potential to disrupt your plans
“When a game is on the line, I'm not asking myself to do something that I haven't done thousands of times before. So, when I prepare I know what I am capable of doing, I know what I'm comfortable doing, and I know what I'm not comfortable doing. So in those moments it looks like I'm ice cold or not nervous, it's because I've done it thousands of times before.. so, what's one more time.” - Kobe Bryant
You must show respect to get it in-turn. Showing respect to others is a sign of empathy understanding and self-reinforcing behavior. Showing respect may not come with ease, while it can also be easily lost. A lifetime of admiration can be disregarded for a moment’s transgression. Once lost is seldom regained nor to its previous glory.
We are all defined by decisions that we have made, and the actions taken by them. Good or bad, they have written who we were, are, and aiming to be. You will be judged on those decisions. Make wise choices, for they define you to yourself and those around you.
Acknowledging and addressing one’s fears can break you free from the limitations they impose, fostering strength and self-confidence. Allowing them to remain unanswered allows them to develop into deeper hinderances that can cripple your progress.
An apology means nothing without changed behavior. An apology without change is just noise.
The Ethics of Reciprocity: "Treat others as you would want to be treated". Be kind and respectful as you would want in return. When not reciprocated, treat others accordingly as they may not value you as you do them.
Deliberately shaping how you wish to be perceived involves embodying the characteristics and behaviors of the person you aspire to become. This intentional presentation not only influences others' perceptions but also reinforces your own identity transformation. If you aim to be seen as a leader, adopting confident body language, engaging in active listening, and demonstrating decisiveness can help reinforce that image. If you place little or no effort in your representation, then your outward perceptions will show it so. It is not difficult to comprehend why others might view you negatively when your outward appearance suggests it. Expecting someone to evaluate you based on qualities they haven't witnessed is unrealistic. By aligning your actions with your desired self-image, you cultivate authenticity and confidence, ultimately facilitating personal growth and the realization of your goals.
In my eyes there is no such thing as luck. You are only as lucky as your preparation for any situation. You can prepare yourself for the unexpected, so that noting can catch you off guard.
“Stop Worrying About What Other People Think of You, Or View You.” Is fundamentally flawed. These sentiments are unrealistic, for a world that will not always view you in a positive light. Always carry yourself in a presentable manner, because what you project is how you are perceived.
Speak all with purpose and intent. Be sincere. Cherish the value and integrity of your word. As others will hold you to it and dismiss you when you do not. Never backout on a promise and stand behind what you say.
Being quick to judge allows for misinformation, misdirection, and incomplete information. Often resulting in foolish response. It is wise to wait for the truth to reveal itself.
This is the ultimate display of self-control. Not allowing any person place or theme taking control over your actions. You having the strengthen ability to control everything within your power. I.E money doesn’t have control over you. You can do without. It doesn’t dictate your purpose or actions. This can be applied to anything. Any vices, friends or family, Addictions and so forth. The only thing that can control you, is you.
One’s silence should not be misconstrued as a sign of weakness; rather, it can signify strength and contemplation. Individuals who choose to remain silent often do so in reflection, assessing situations, or avoid unnecessary conflict where there is no personal gain. This quietude can be a powerful tool, allowing for thoughtful responses rather than impulsive reactions. Recognizing the value of silence fosters a deeper understanding of oneself and others, highlighting that true strength often lies in restraint and the ability to listen.
There are no mistakes, only emphasizes the value of experience in personal and professional growth. Each misstep serves as an opportunity for reflection and understanding, allowing you to gain insights that contribute to your development. This perspective encourages a mindset that views challenges not as failures, but as essential components of the learning process, fostering resilience, accountability, and adaptability in the face of adversity.
If it is constantly on your mind, then never stop working for it. With passion and effort anything can be achieved and attained.
