New Depths

On one of my contracts with NASA in Texas, I had the privilege of receiving training from an astronaut conditioning instructor, specifically one who specializes in aquatic training. This instructor offered a select group of us the chance to become certified in scuba diving. Initially hesitant due to personal reservations about water, I ultimately recognized the uniqueness of the opportunity and decided to embrace the challenge. As I progressed through the course, my comfort in the water grew significantly, transforming my initial apprehension into a sense of ease and enjoyment. This newfound passion led me to eagerly accept the chance to pursue advanced scuba diving lessons, despite the inherent challenges they presented. The advanced training required me to dive deeper than ever before, including in low-visibility nighttime conditions, which could be daunting for those with fears of darkness or confined spaces; however, I found the experience thrilling.
